Over 100 pieces were submitted and twenty-three finalists were selected for the Demirkan Aşetey art competition held April 25, 2018 in the Suna Kiraç Theatre Foyer. As always, the winners of this annual competition were selected by a panel of judges. Each is a professional in the field of visual arts in the areas of curatorial work, education, and professional production. Joining the judging panel this year was Bora Fer RC 03 L12, Nuran Terzioglu ACG 65, Gabrielle Reeve Oral and Jeroen Paalvast.First prize went to Lise 12 students Beyza Günaydin and Kaan Tarhan for their piece İstanbul'um. This large format mixed media collaborative piece incorporates acrylic and watercolor paint, collage, oil pastel, and string. The work aims to show the relationship between the artists and the city with general motifs of Istanbul as well as symbols that are personal to each artist.Second and Third prizes went to Lise 11 students Yiğit Yüce and Ramazan Efe Doğruöz, respectively. The five honorable mentions were awarded to Nazdar Roşna Ayzit L11, Fatma Ece Kaya L11, Zeynep Eylül Erol L9, Orhan Can Evyapan L11 and Beril Töre L9.The Demirkan Aşetey competition is sponsored by the Class of 76, and is held in memory of their classmate who loved art and was an amateur artist himself.
