RC Robotic Team Headed to World Championship

RC’s Robotics team has earned a spot at the FIRST Robotics World Championship in Houston, Texas, after drawing a wildcard the Istanbul Regional competition on March 12.

The team, named ARC 6014, also received an imagery award for team pit visuals, design and robot, as well as the appearance of the team. Announcing the award, the judges said, “Pink is not just a color, it’s an attitude,” referring to the team’s vibrant color. Two team members also became semi-finalists for the Dean’s Award: Enes Arda Özgür and Tan Gemicioğlu.

The team’s robot took six weeks to build, during what’s called the building season. Custom designed parts were created using 3D printing. The team worked day and night throughout the semester break, making final changes up to the last minute to their Java language-controlled robot.

The RC Robotics team is also involved in several community projects including developing braille restaurant menus, creating prosthetics for orthopedically impaired cats and dogs, and teaching coding to younger schoolchildren.
